Abstract

Small signal stability investigation is important for stability analysis of power systems as a small signal disturbance could be an initiating event for a large system outage. Fuzzy logic as a novel method for power system stability has attained wide importance in the recent years. In this paper, stability studies have been carried out for a single machine infinite bus system which has been modeled according to the Heffron Philips model. A comparison between the conventional lead-lag, PID and Fuzzy controllers for damping the system oscillations has also been carried out in this paper. The system is simulated in MATLABTM Simulink environment and the results have been presented.
